President Christodoulides Wants to See Results from Cypriot Defense Industry

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, expressed the government's willingness to strengthen the Cypriot defense industry and leverage its potential, with the aim of achieving a double-digit contribution to the country's GDP. During his meeting with members of the Cypriot Defense Industry Council, the President stated that the government has set specific goals for the sector, such as the creation of a registry of Cypriot companies and the enhancement of their extroversion. President Christodoulides reiterated his confidence in the potential of the sector, describing it as a "promising new pillar" of the economy. He also referred to the opportunities created by European initiatives and international exhibitions for Cypriot businesses. In addition, the President stated his readiness to support the sector at the international level, mentioning that he will participate in related promotion and cooperation initiatives in Athens. He estimated that the Cypriot defense industry could reach a double-digit percentage of the country's GDP in the coming years, considering this a realistic goal. The meeting focused on assessing the progress of the Council one year after its establishment and setting the next steps to strengthen the sector.
