The Minister of Justice, Konstantinos Fytiris, announced a series of changes to the Central Prisons following a discussion in the Human Rights Committee regarding the CPT report on detention conditions. The plans include changing the name to “Correctional Institution”, announcing new warden positions (to be called “correctional officers” or “employees”), creating a new entrance for staff, and suspending the expansion of the prison wing. In addition, daily scoring of wardens based on performance and improvement of the evaluation process for Director positions are being considered. Finally, the Minister criticized the company responsible for the mobile phone detection system, believing it should face legal consequences.
