US to Halt Collection of Tariffs Deemed Illegal by Supreme Court

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will halt the collection of tariffs deemed illegal by the Supreme Court, starting tomorrow, Tuesday. This concerns tariffs imposed under the Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). The decision follows the Supreme Court’s ruling that the so-called “retaliatory” tariffs of the Trump administration were illegal. CBP has not explained why it continued to collect the tariffs in recent days, nor whether refunds will be issued to importers. The suspension only applies to IEEPA tariffs and does not affect other tariffs, such as those provided for by national security or unfair trade practices laws.
