US to Halt Collection of Tariffs Deemed Illegal by Supreme Court

US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced that it will halt the collection of tariffs deemed illegal by the Supreme Court, starting tomorrow, Tuesday. The decision follows the overturning of former President Donald Trump's “retaliatory” tariffs. CBP will deactivate the relevant tariff codes. Simultaneously, Trump has imposed a new global 15% tariff with a different legal basis. CBP has not explained why it continued to collect the tariffs after the court’s decision, nor whether refunds will be issued to importers. The suspension does not affect other tariffs imposed by Trump, such as those related to national security.
