US Hit by Deadly Cold Snap, Hundreds of Thousands Without Power

A deadly polar cold snap is gripping the United States, exacerbating the effects of a major snowstorm. Over 800,000 homes are without power and at least 21 people have died. Temperatures in the Great Lakes region have dropped below -20 degrees Celsius, and are reaching -30 degrees Celsius in parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin. Authorities are warning of further temperature drops, with the wind chill expected to reach -45 degrees Celsius in some areas. Heavy snowfall has caused widespread power outages across more than 20 states, with Tennessee and Mississippi being the hardest hit. Power outages are expected to continue for several days as authorities struggle to cope with the damage. Over 19,000 flights have been canceled since Saturday, and thousands more have been delayed.
