Electronic Prescriptions and Tests: Security at the Forefront

In Cyprus, prescribing and ordering medical tests are now primarily done electronically, offering significant convenience to patients and doctors. However, this digital transition raises important data security concerns. The forgery of prescriptions, alteration of diagnoses, or unauthorized access to medical records pose serious threats. Medical data is particularly valuable as it is unique and permanent, unlike financial data that can change. Access to medical history can lead to information abuse. Encryption is a basic security measure, but technological advancements require more advanced solutions. The use of post-quantum algorithms and techniques such as QKD (Quantum Key Distribution) can ensure data security even in a future with quantum computers. Cyprus, due to its small size and flexibility, has the potential to adopt these innovative solutions and serve as a model for other countries. Continuous investment in security is essential to maintain trust in technology and ensure a modern and reliable healthcare system. Protecting electronic prescriptions and tests is not merely an option, but a fundamental prerequisite.
