Oscar-Winning Actors: Where They Went to School – Who Went to Harvard and Who Didn’t Get a Formal Education (List)

An analysis by Times Higher Education reveals interesting patterns regarding the education of actors who have won Oscars over the past three decades. While many Oscar-winning actors have studied at universities such as the University of California, Yale University and the University of Cambridge, there are also several who have not received higher education. Universities close to Hollywood, such as those in California, appear to have greater influence, while dramatic schools, such as the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, also play a significant role. Natalie Portman studied psychology at Harvard, while Cillian Murphy and Jessie Buckley attended University College Cork and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art respectively. Some actors, such as Michelle Yeoh and Michael B. Jordan, have not attended university, choosing to start their careers early. Others, such as Daniel Day-Lewis, honed their talent in specialized drama schools. The choice of studies varies, with some choosing scientific subjects, such as art history or English literature, rather than acting.
