House of Representatives to Host Interparliamentary Conference on AI

The House of Representatives of Cyprus will host an Interparliamentary Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI) on January 14th and 15th, 2026, within the framework of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU. Delegations from the parliaments of EU member states, the European Commission, and the European Parliament will attend the conference. The President of the House, Annita Demetriou, will deliver a welcome address at the opening of the conference. The conference is expected to cover a wide range of issues arising from the rapid development of artificial intelligence, including the opportunities and complex challenges associated with its use in key areas of public and private life. Particular emphasis will be placed on the ethical, legal, and social dimensions of AI. Keynote speakers will include the European Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection, Michael McGrath, Cypriot Deputy Minister for Research and Innovation, Nikodemos Damianou, Chair of the EP Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, Li Andersson (online), Co-Chair of the EP Working Group on the Implementation and Enforcement of the Artificial Intelligence Regulation and MEP Michael McNamara (online). Cypriot and foreign politicians, academics, and technocrats with expertise in the topics under discussion will also participate. The conference will focus on the governance of AI, the challenges to democracy and the rule of law arising from its use, and the challenges and opportunities presented in the field of employment in the age of AI.
