Owner of 'Violanta' Faces Charges Following Deadly Explosion

The owner of the 'Violanta' factory is expected to appear before the Trikala prosecutor today to answer charges related to the fatal explosion that claimed the lives of five workers. The operation of a second factory owned by the same businessman has been suspended due to a lack of fire safety certifications, while a third factory is under strict monitoring due to an undeclared warehouse and insufficient safety measures. The preliminary investigation has revealed a long-term propane leak, and worker testimonies report warnings about propane odors and the management's refusal to replace pipelines at a cost of 30,000 euros. A previous study by mechanical engineers had identified deficiencies and deviations from the legislation, such as small distances between tanks, unrecorded network dimensions, and excessive pressure in the pipelines, recommending the installation of a comprehensive safety system. Corrosion was also detected in the underground pipeline, and underground tanks were not included in the building plans.
