"The Fate of Cyprus is Not a Gamble" – Warnings About N. Christodoulides' Foreign Policy

AKEL MP Aristos Damianou expressed strong concerns about Cyprus's foreign policy and its participation in Donald Trump's Peace Council. He argued that there is an attempt to undermine the role of the UN as a key player in resolving international disputes, while critically commenting on the attempt to equate partitionist leaders with those who support federation and peace. Damianou criticized the government for supporting "war criminals" such as Netanyahu, with the argument of strengthening Cyprus's footprint. He warned that abandoning the principles of international law and cooperating with such figures could lead to political impartiality and endanger the fate of Cyprus. The AKEL MP questioned the stance of DIKO, expressing fears that this party also appears to be following the same political line. He emphasized that Cyprus should not "gamble" with the Cyprus issue and the basis for a solution, but should seek to resolve the problem based on international law and the principles of the EU. Damianou's criticism focuses on the possibility of Cyprus surrendering its sovereignty to external actors and endangering the prospect of a fair and sustainable solution to the Cyprus problem.
