Turkey Installs Ship Monitoring System in Occupied Territories

Turkey is strengthening its control in the eastern Mediterranean with the installation of a new ship monitoring system in the occupied territories. The system, which was developed entirely with domestic technology, will be fully operational in the second half of 2026 and will aim to protect the maritime space around the occupied territories and prevent smuggling. The installation of the three monitoring stations has already been completed. The new system will allow for the identification of ships, uninterrupted monitoring and regulation of maritime traffic in the area. It will transmit navigation information and warnings to ships, while allowing for the control of designated areas to prevent smuggling and potential risks. Any ship within the scope of the Vessel Traffic Services will be identified immediately. The information collected will be transmitted to a center in the occupied territories and to the Vessel Traffic Services Center in Mersin, Turkey. According to Turkish Transport Minister Abdulqadir Uraloğlu, the system will allow for the immediate identification of any ship within the scope of the Vessel Traffic Services, while the information will be transmitted immediately to the control centers.
