The KtiZo project, despite initial reactions and legal/technical difficulties, is moving forward to its next phase of implementation. The first apartment building, constructed in place of two dangerous buildings in Latsia, is expected to be delivered soon, providing housing for 18 beneficiary families. The remaining 12 apartments will be sold at affordable prices to young families, aiming to revitalize the area. The successful implementation of the first phase is due to the constructive cooperation of involved parties, including the Parliamentary Committee on Refugees. The Minister of Interior, Konstantinos Ioannou, expressed his satisfaction with the project's progress, emphasizing the recognition of its necessity by the beneficiaries themselves. Simultaneously, the second phase of KtiZo, concerning 70 apartment buildings with minor structural problems, is also underway. 19 of these have already formed management committees and are in the process of studies. The third phase, including 245 apartment buildings with minimal repair needs, has also begun, with 25 management committees having commissioned visual inspections or being in the process of commissioning them. The state provides significant financial support for renovation work and elevator installation, with funding up to €390,000 per apartment building. The goal of KtiZo is to definitively solve the problems of unsuitability and danger in refugee apartment buildings, ensuring decent and safe housing for the displaced, who have been deprived of their property since the Turkish invasion of 1974.
