Cyprus Ages Faster Than Any Other Country in the EU

Cyprus is experiencing the largest increase in median age of its population compared to all other countries in the European Union. According to Eurostat data, the median age in Cyprus increased by 4 years, from 37 years in 2015 to 41 years in 2025. The median age at the EU level increased by 2.1 years over the same period, but Cyprus and Slovakia recorded the largest increases. Notable increases were also observed in Italy, Greece, Poland, and Portugal. At the EU level, the median age has reached 44.9 years, with a difference of 2.1 years between the native population (45.2 years) and the foreign-born population (43.1 years). The increase in median age indicates population aging in Cyprus and Europe in general.
