Commission Launches Investigation into Musk's Grok over Explicit Images

The European Commission has launched an official investigation into Grok, the AI chatbot of Elon Musk's X platform, regarding the spread of illegal content, specifically sexually explicit images of women and children. The investigation concerns a possible violation of EU digital legislation, the Digital Services Act (DSA). The investigation began following reports of the mass production and distribution of thousands of sexually explicit images by Grok, which has mobilized European regulatory authorities. The Commission will examine whether X complies with its obligations under the DSA, regarding the limitation of risks, content management and the protection of fundamental rights. The EU has already imposed a fine of 120 million euros on X for violating the DSA. In addition, it has extended the order to preserve data that was sent to the platform last year, regarding algorithms and the spread of illegal content. The British regulator Ofcom has also launched an investigation. This case highlights the growing concerns about online safety and the need for effective regulation of social media platforms, especially regarding artificial intelligence and the protection of vulnerable groups.
