Greece to Acquire Photos of Kaisariani Executions

The Greek Ministry of Culture announced that it is initiating the acquisition of rare photographic documents depicting the 200 fighters executed in Kaisariani on May 1st, 1944. Experts from the Ministry will visit the collector in Ghent, Belgium, to assess the authenticity, legality of origin, significance, and value of the collection. The announcement states that the photographs are likely authentic and originate from networks of photograph exchange created by German WWII veterans. The Central Council of Modern Monuments will consider the issue of designating the photographs as a monument, which is necessary for the Greek state to claim them. If authenticity and legal origin are confirmed, the Ministry will proceed with the acquisition.
