EU Mobilizes Humanitarian and Financial Aid to Lebanon

The European Union is intensifying its support for Lebanon in response to escalating violence and significant displacement. In addition to €100 million in humanitarian aid, the EU is mobilizing funds from a €1 billion package for the period 2024-2027, focusing on immediate needs. Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Dubravka Šuica, emphasized the EU's commitment to Lebanon's stability and cooperation with local authorities and international partners. Specifically, the EU is allocating an additional €10 million to support 100,000 vulnerable households that have been displaced, through the state social protection program. Simultaneously, 20 mobile medical units are supporting 67 collective shelters and evacuation areas, ensuring access to essential healthcare services. In the education sector, the EU is promoting distance learning for 50,000 students and providing digital training tools to 8,000 teachers. Overall, support covers 150,000 children and young people through in-person and community programs, offering comprehensive education and child protection services. Furthermore, the EU is strengthening its support for the Lebanese government's National Operations Room, which coordinates emergency response and promotes sustainable solutions for Syrian refugees. This includes border monitoring, migration management, and providing basic assistance to individuals transiting through Lebanon to Syria.
