IOC Bans Trans and Intersex Athletes from Women's Events at 2028 Olympics

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that, starting with the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, participation in women's events will be limited to athletes who do not carry the SRY gene. This effectively excludes transgender athletes and a significant percentage of intersex athletes from competing in women's competitions. The IOC justifies the decision as a measure to protect fairness, safety, and the integrity of the women's category, based on scientific data. Testing for the SRY gene will be conducted through a simple saliva or blood test and will be required only once. IOC President Kirsty Coventry emphasized that the decision is based on science and aims to ensure fair competition.
