Britain Strengthens Forces in Cyprus – 400 Additional Troops to Bases

Britain is strengthening its military forces in Cyprus with 400 additional troops at its bases, amid heightened tensions in the Middle East. The move comes after the visit of French President Macron to Cyprus and the welcome he received from President Christodoulides. British Defense Secretary John Healey presented to Parliament the actions taken by the United Kingdom to strengthen its forces in the region, including the deployment of four Typhoon fighter jets, three Wildcat helicopters, and one Merlin helicopter. The HMS Dragon destroyer is expected to sail soon. The British Air Force has carried out more than 230 hours of flight, with eight fighter aircraft operating from Qatar. The bases in Cyprus have been reinforced with 400 personnel, mainly from anti-aircraft defense teams. Britain is investigating the origin of a drone that hit the British base in Akrotiri, possibly from Lebanon or Iraq. The Defense Secretary stated that Iran has launched more than 500 ballistic missiles and drones against targets in various countries, while London continues operations to protect and evacuate citizens from the region. More than 37,000 British nationals have been evacuated since the start of the crisis.
