Parliament Passes New Law for Specialized Volunteers: Unified Framework for Operation and Coordination with State Services

The Cypriot Parliament has approved a new legal framework to regulate the operation of specialized volunteers and their cooperation with state services. The law provides for the creation of a volunteer registry, their training, operational control, and the provision of personal protective equipment. Individuals convicted of arson are excluded from the status of specialized volunteers. The passage of the law aims to strengthen cooperation between the state and volunteer groups, particularly in cases of emergencies and natural disasters. The bill's rapporteur, Irene Charalambidou, emphasized the importance of the legislation for enhancing citizen safety and protecting the environment.
