Parliament Approves OAY Budget – MPs Express Concerns

The House of Representatives of Cyprus unanimously approved the budget of the Health Insurance Organization (OAY) for 2026, which is balanced and amounts to €2,129,360,000. Despite the unanimity, several MPs expressed concerns about the sustainability of the General Health System (GHS) and the quality of services provided. The main sources of revenue are the GHS, state funding, and administrative revenues. Expenditures mainly cover the cost of health services, as well as operational and development expenses. MPs from various parties emphasized the need to strengthen the GHS, improve the quality of services, enhance access to innovative drugs and methods, and address the delays and imbalances observed. A bill for a national clinical documentation center and strategic human resource planning was also requested.
