Desalination Covers Around 80% of Water Supply in Cyprus

Desalination covers around 80% of the water supply in Cyprus, according to the Water Development Department. There are five permanent desalination plants operating in various regions of Cyprus, as well as two mobile units. In the near future, two additional mobile units will be put into operation, further increasing the capacity for producing desalinated water. The Water Development Department emphasizes the importance of integrating Renewable Energy Sources (RES) into desalination plants, aiming to reduce production costs and protect the environment. At the same time, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment is considering the construction of a mobile desalination plant in the free area of Famagusta.
