Hubris as Strategic Blindness

In the article, the Patriarch analyzes hubris as a strategic blindness that leads to wrong decisions and escalation of conflicts. He refers to the examples of Donald Trump in Iran and Vladimir Putin in Ukraine, where excessive self-confidence and underestimation of the opponent led to problems and potential escalation. The author points out that hubris begins with the illusion of an easy triumph, continues with a miscalculation of the opponent's resilience, and ends with greater escalation to cover up initial mistakes. In the case of Iran, despite the triumphant declarations, US intelligence estimates that only one-third of Iran's missile arsenal has been destroyed, while Iran maintains significant operational capabilities. However, the author acknowledges that the Iranian regime is a source of instability and violence, and its weakening is desirable. However, this does not justify every American choice and recklessness. A war with Iran would have enormous geopolitical, energy, and military consequences. The Patriarch concludes by emphasizing that history punishes those who think they can subdue it, as happened with Putin in Ukraine and seems to be happening with Trump in Iran. Therefore, hubris is a dangerous strategy that leads to chaos and destruction.
