Following the acquittal of Dimitris Syllouris and Christakis Tziovanis in the case of the Cyprus Investment Program, the Legal Service filed an appeal, arguing that there are legal gaps in the decision of the Permanent Criminal Court. Legal expert Achilleas Dimitriades described the public's reactions as understandable but called for a separation of the legal and political aspects of the matter, stressing the importance of discussion for the public to understand the legal processes. Mr. Dimitriades identified the concentration of power in the Attorney General as a major problem, proposing the model of separate government legal advisors and public prosecutors, as is the case in other countries. He expressed the need for clarification of the procedures for suspending criminal prosecutions. Legal expert Simos Angelides pointed out that the court in its acquittal decision acknowledged gaps in the case and emphasized the distinction between the initial assessment and the presentation of evidence of the case before the courts. He stressed that justice is served based on the evidence presented and the absence of reasonable doubt.
