Zelensky: Progress in Kyiv-Moscow Talks – Umerov: Differences Remain on Sensitive Issues

Trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia and with the mediation of the US in Geneva have resulted in progress, but significant differences remain on critical issues. The head of the Ukrainian delegation, Rustem Umerov, stated that the talks were substantive and that progress had been made, but avoided revealing details. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky admitted that the positions of the two sides still differ on sensitive issues, such as territorial disputes and control of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Both sides described the negotiations as “difficult,” but agreed to continue the talks. The goal is to achieve a just and lasting peace, but further coordination and consensus are needed on many issues. Ukraine is seeking a practical framework for resolving the conflict, while Russia insists on its own conditions. The negotiations focused on finding solutions to security, territorial and humanitarian issues. However, the significant differences that remain suggest that reaching a final agreement will be a long and difficult process.
