European Parliament: Trade agreements between EU and USA suspended until Trump's threats against Greenland stop

The European Parliament has decided to suspend trade agreements between the European Union and the United States, in response to former President Trump's threats regarding the potential purchase of Greenland. The decision was made by the International Trade Committee, which believes that these threats undermine the stability and predictability of trade relations. The Committee President, Bernd Lange, emphasized that the Turnberry Agreement, which would have eliminated tariffs on industrial products and established quotas for agri-food products, cannot be implemented under these conditions. The EU considers the threat against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Greenland and Denmark unacceptable. The International Trade Committee will ask the European Commission to use the “counter-coercion” tools at its disposal to respond to any trade tariffs imposed. However, for the time being, there is no question of reducing the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the USA, as this concerns private companies and member states. The European Parliament's decision is a strong response to the American threats and a clear statement that the EU will not tolerate any attempt to coerce or undermine the sovereignty of its member states.
