EU Rebuke to Cyprus over Building Energy Efficiency

The European Commission is initiating infringement procedures against Cyprus and 18 other EU countries for failing to submit their national building renovation plans (NRAPs) by the deadline of December 31, 2025. NRAPs are a key tool for improving the energy efficiency of buildings and achieving climate and energy goals. The Commission is calling on member states to submit their plans as soon as possible. If it does not receive a satisfactory response within two months, it may send a reasoned opinion. The timely submission of plans is important for evaluating each country's strategy and ensuring the effective implementation of the revised directive on the energy performance of buildings. The delay in submitting NRAPs may lead to delays in implementing measures to improve building energy efficiency and reduce energy bills. The European Commission emphasizes the importance of building renovation for achieving the EU's climate goals. Cyprus, along with the other countries under review, must submit its plan as soon as possible to avoid further sanctions and contribute to achieving European energy efficiency goals.
