European Parliament Delays Unfreezing Approval of EU-US Agreement

The European Parliament's International Trade Committee (INTA) failed to reach a decision on resuming standard legislative procedures for the EU-US Agreement (Turnberry). Committee Chair Bernd Lange stated that the EP's negotiating team must decide on a restart before the committee's next meeting on February 23-24, with another meeting scheduled for February 4 to reassess the situation. Pressure to restart the procedures came from the European People's Party (EPP), the European Conservatives (ECR), and Patriots for Europe (PfE), while Socialists and Democrats (S&D), Renew, Left, and Greens/EFA voted against. This delay leaves the agreement's approval in limbo, with significant implications for trade relations between the EU and the US. A decision is expected after further discussions and consultations within the committee.
