DISY President Defends Attendance at Grivas Memorial, Criticizes Toxic Political Discourse

The president of DISY, Annita Demetriou, responded to criticism regarding the party's leadership's attendance at the memorial service for General George Grivas Digenis, emphasizing that DISY has historical roots in EOKA and has always honored its struggle. She also indirectly criticized ELAM, reminding that the party did not exist when DISY participated in similar memorials. Ms. Demetriou expressed her disappointment with the toxicity prevailing in political discourse and on social media, condemning the attacks and accusations being hurled. She stressed that politics should not be based on hatred and toxicity, but on specific proposals and solutions to citizens' problems. She also pointed out that the participation of young people and women in politics is discouraged by this negative climate and called on all political forces to stop this “cannibalism”.
