Two Bills Prepared for Foreclosures – To Be Sent to Legal Service and Then Parliament

The Ministry of Finance of Cyprus is preparing two bills regarding foreclosures, which will be submitted to the Legal Service for review and then to Parliament. The bills aim to provide an outlet for credit acquisition companies, banks, and debtors, promoting sustainable restructurings. The bills provide for a new mechanism for verifying debt and determining the method of repayment, strengthening existing procedures of the Financial Dispute Resolution Authority and involving insolvency advisors. Debtors will have more time to utilize available tools, and the powers of the Financial Commissioner will be strengthened to resolve disputes up to €20,000. The bills are expected to contribute to the smoother management of foreclosures and the protection of debtors' rights.
