Paphos ETAP: Cyprus Remains a Safe Tourist Destination

The President of the Paphos Tourism Development and Promotion Company (ETAP), Michalis Mitas, expresses optimism that potential losses in the tourism sector due to the current situation in the region will be covered in the coming months, emphasizing that Cyprus remains a safe and fully functional tourist destination. He expects the situation to normalize in the coming weeks and efforts are being made for re-bookings. For 2026, the Paphos ETAP aims for further qualitative upgrading and sustainable maturation of the region’s tourism product. Key pillars include air connectivity diversification, ensuring stable flights, and strengthening thematic forms of tourism, such as sports, wedding, wellness, agrotourism, and tourism for people over 55. Particular emphasis is placed on the development of ecological trails, hiking paths, and interactive activities, as well as the organization of international sports and other events. At the same time, the digital upgrading of the destination and the improvement of accessibility for people with disabilities are being promoted. However, seasonality remains a significant problem, despite efforts to limit it. Other issues include inadequate public transport, staff shortages, limited water availability, and high operating costs. The heterogeneity in service quality, limited use of technology, and aging infrastructure also pose challenges that require coordinated interventions.
