Erhurman: Opening of Louroutzina, Mia Milia, Athienou and Aglantzia Checkpoints

T/C leader Tufan Erhurman stated that the G/C side rejected three proposals for opening checkpoints in Athienou, as well as suggestions for new crossing points in Louroutzina, Mia Milia and Aglantzia. These points had been discussed in New York before he took office. Mr. Erhurman argued that the checkpoints in Mia Milia and Louroutzina would benefit both communities, while a second crossing point in Nicosia would relieve congestion at the Agios Dometios checkpoint. He stressed that facilitating mobility concerns all citizens. Referring to Athienou, he pointed out that the checkpoint primarily serves G/C who travel between Larnaca and Nicosia. The T/C side proposed the construction of a new road with Turkish funding, an alternative route with European funding and the payment of compensation for G/C properties through the “immovable property commission”. Mr. Erhurman accused the G/C side of undermining the already agreed options, describing the move as an attempt to overturn a situation that has already progressed. He also expressed his dissatisfaction with public statements through the media and pledged to continue working with “honesty, patience, seriousness, composure and determination”.
