Snow Removal Operation by the Forestry Department – Fire Engines and Agricultural Tractors Deployed to Clear Roads

The Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment is actively involved in snow removal operations on mountain roads, utilizing fire engines and agricultural tractors equipped as snowplows. The aim is to ensure the safe movement of citizens in snow-covered areas, such as Troodos, Kykkos Monastery and Stavros tis Psokas. The snow removal work is carried out in cooperation with the Public Works Department, with an emphasis on providing access to activities such as skiing. In addition, agricultural tractors acquired through the Recovery and Resilience Plan contribute to the snow removal of forest and public roads. The Forestry Department calls on the public to contribute to maintaining cleanliness in the mountainous areas and to avoid actions that cause damage to the environment. It reminds that the deposition of waste in a state forest is a criminal offense, punishable by imprisonment of up to one year or a fine of 5,000 euros. Furthermore, driving motorized vehicles off forest roads is prohibited, as this may cause damage to forest vegetation and soil. The Forestry Department calls on drivers to be particularly careful, to use suitable vehicles and to follow the instructions of the Police.
