Imposters Posing as Electricity Authority Employees Stealing Money

The Cyprus Police are warning the public about fraudsters posing as employees of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) and extorting money from unsuspecting citizens. The fraudsters visit homes and apartments, pretending to be EAC employees and asking for money to allegedly repair a power outage. Specifically, the fraudsters lower the power supply fuse, creating the impression that there is a problem, and then ask for money to “repair” the issue. The Police urge the public to be particularly careful and report any suspicious incidents. The Police advise citizens not to give money to unknown individuals posing as EAC employees and to contact the Police or the EAC immediately to verify the identity of the employees. The Police have launched investigations to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
