Erhurman Insists on 4 Points and 'Opening of Mia Milia' Crossing

T/C leader Tufan Erhurman described his meeting with the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, as “open and honest” and announced that the two sides agreed to instruct their representatives to continue contacts to cover lost ground in Confidence-Building Measures (CBMs). A new meeting between the two leaders was also agreed upon. A tangible example of cooperation discussed concerns foot-and-mouth disease, with the Turkish Cypriot side offering to provide 20,000 doses of vaccine to the Republic of Cyprus, recognizing the risk of spread across the island. Particular emphasis was placed on the issue of crossings, with Mr. Erhurman proposing the opening of the Mia Milia crossing for vehicle passage. Regarding humanitarian issues, Mr. Erhurman announced a visit to the school of displaced Greek Cypriots in Rizokarpaso, while rejecting reports that he was facing pressure from President Christodoulides. Finally, the issue of mixed marriages was also raised, with Mr. Erhurman handing over specific data to the President of the Republic. Regarding the substance of the Cyprus issue, Mr. Erhurman insisted on his “methodology of four points” and the utilization of the convergences achieved in Crans Montana. He argued that the non-resolution of the Cyprus issue is due to the “unwillingness of Greek Cypriot leadership to share power and wealth” and expressed hope that Mr. Christodoulides will not follow the same stance.
