Dangerous Roads in the Mountains: Which Roads are Open to All Vehicles

Due to adverse weather conditions, specifically snowfall and frost in the mountains, some roads are open only to four-wheel drive vehicles or those equipped with anti-slip chains. Specifically, the Prodromou-Troodos road has these requirements. Landslides of rocks and soil have occurred on other roads, such as Kalopanayiotis – Moutoulla – Pedoula, Kakopetria – Karvouna, Pedoula – Kykkos – Kampou, Kykkos – Tsakkistra, Kampou – Orkontas – Kato Pyrgos and Pedoula – Prodromou, making them dangerous. However, the Platron – Troodos, Karvouna – Troodos, Prodromou-Lemithou and Kakopetria-Pinewood-Pedoula roads are open to all vehicles, but are slippery due to light snowfall or frost. Drivers are urged to be particularly careful and avoid traveling in the mountains unless absolutely necessary, and to use appropriate safety measures for safe driving.
