Germany Offers €1 Million Reward for Berlin Blackout Suspects

Germany has offered a reward of €1 million for information leading to the arrest of members of the far-left group “Vulkangruppe,” who are suspected of being responsible for a widespread power outage in Berlin. The blackout, which lasted almost a week, left approximately 45,000 households and 2,200 businesses without electricity in southwestern Berlin. Police consider the group’s online messages, in which they claimed responsibility for the attack, to be credible. The “Vulkangruppe” has been active since 2011 and has been linked to other arson attacks in the area, including vandalism at a Tesla factory. German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt pledged a tough response and called for greater police powers, such as the use of facial recognition technology and the collection of digital data, to combat left-wing extremist violence.
