Larnaca Incident: Decision on Detention of 5 Suspects on Monday

The Larnaca District Court will announce its decision on Monday, January 26th, regarding the police request for an eight-day detention of the five suspects arrested yesterday during an operation against organized crime. The suspects, aged 42, 22, 31, and two 29-year-olds, remain in custody. The police are investigating them for offenses related to participation in a criminal organization, conspiracy to commit a felony, extortion, demanding property under threats, and money laundering. The offenses allegedly took place between 2023 and 2025 in the province of Larnaca. During the investigations, €1,050, gold jewelry of unknown value, mobile phones, two bulletproof vests, two replica pistols, and a collapsible baton were confiscated. Two vehicles were also seized for further examination. In one of the homes, a firearm was found and confiscated, for which the 29-year-old did not have a license, resulting in his re-arrest. One of the suspects, the 22-year-old, was arrested at the central prison, where he is already being held as a defendant in an attempted murder case that took place in Larnaca in July. The defense lawyers of four of the suspects objected to the police request for detention, while the lawyer of the 22-year-old did not raise any objections. The court's decision is expected on Monday.
