Emergency Air Evacuation of Pregnant Woman to Israel – Newborn to Undergo Immediate Surgery

A pregnant woman in her 35th week of pregnancy was urgently transported to Israel for medical care. The health service of the KEDAS stated that the air evacuation took place last night to ensure the safe birth of the baby. However, the newborn will need to undergo surgery immediately after birth. The director of health services of KEDAS, Monica Kyriakou, stated that since KEDAS began taking over the dispatch of patients abroad, 27 air evacuations have taken place, 10 of which were emergency cases requiring immediate action. Kyriakou explained that Israel is the closest country to Cyprus that can offer specialized medical care in a short amount of time. This is why most serious cases are transferred there. The incident highlights the need for access to specialized medical care abroad for patients in Cyprus facing emergency medical situations and the efforts of KEDAS to ensure their rapid and safe transfer.
