Return of 18 Antiquities to Cyprus from US Online Auction

The Department of Antiquities announced the repatriation of 18 Cypriot antiquities discovered for sale in an online auction. The artifacts, dating from the Early Bronze Age to the 4th century BC, were handed over to the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Washington D.C. following communication with the auction house. Among the items being returned to Cyprus are vessels from various periods and a limestone male head sculpture. The Department of Antiquities expressed its gratitude to Sloans & Kenyon Auctioneers & Appraisers and the donors for the voluntary return of the antiquities, as well as to the Cypriot Embassy for their cooperation. The recovery of these artifacts represents a significant success in the effort to combat the illegal trafficking of antiquities and protect Cyprus's cultural heritage.
