Foot-and-Mouth Disease Cases Expected in Geri and Dali, Cyprus

The President of the Pan-Cypriot Veterinary Association, Dr. Dimitris Epameinondas, described the detection of foot-and-mouth disease cases in units in Geri and Dali as an unfortunate but expected event. He stressed that the measures taken are working, but called on everyone to comply with the decrees to control the disease. The Association is committed to the vaccination program set by the Veterinary Services, with the goal of vaccinating all goat, sheep, and cattle units. The spread to Geri and Dali was a likely scenario, but this does not negate the effectiveness of the measures. So far, 80% of cattle and 45% of goats and sheep have been vaccinated, with a goal of completing vaccinations by the end of March.
