EU Officially Blacklists Iran's Revolutionary Guards

The Council of the European Union has officially decided to include the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran in the EU's list of terrorist organizations. The decision follows a political agreement reached on January 29th. With the addition of the IRGC to the list, it will be subject to restrictive measures, such as the freezing of funds and the prohibition of natural and legal persons of the EU from making financial resources available to the organization. The EU has already listed 13 individuals and 23 groups and entities on the list. The EU's list of terrorist organizations is separate from the one implemented by the EU under the decisions of the United Nations Security Council regarding Al-Qaeda and ISIL/Da’esh. The EU also has the ability to impose restrictive measures against ISIL/Da’esh, Al-Qaeda, as well as those who support Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
