Controversial Video Focuses on €500,000 US Investment in Cyprus' ChatGPT Education Program

The controversy surrounding a video posted by the 'Emily Thompson' account on X centers on a reference by the former Director of the President's Office, Charalambos Charalambous, to a €500,000 US investment. The Deputy Minister of Research and Innovation, Nikodimos Damianou, clarified that the investment concerns OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, and is intended for an educational program in Cyprus. Initially, there were doubts about the existence of the donation, with the Auditor General stating that it had not been recorded in the state's funds. However, the Deputy Minister emphasized that it is a private initiative and that discussions with OpenAI on the 'ChatGPT for Education' program have been advanced since September 2025.
