Feast Day of May 6th: Who Celebrates Today

Today, May 6th, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of Saint Seraphim, who practiced asceticism on Mount Domvou in Livadeia. Seraphim was born in Boeotia and from a young age showed a inclination towards ascetic life and the study of the Holy Scriptures. After wandering through various monasteries, he settled on Mount Domvou, where he built a temple and founded a small brotherhood, teaching the saving teachings of monastic life. He passed away peacefully at the age of 75, on May 6th, 1602. Job and Iovia are also honored. The life of Saint Seraphim is characterized by humility and avoidance of vainglory, as he left the monasteries where he had gained a reputation to continue his practice in secluded places. However, his reputation followed him, resulting in frequent visits from believers seeking his advice. The narrative of his life emphasizes his pious upbringing by his parents and his steadfast desire for a life dedicated to God. The founding of the brotherhood on Mount Domvou is a significant chapter in his life, as he was able to impart his spiritual knowledge and guide other monks there. The memory of Saint Seraphim is honored by the Church as an example of devotion, humility, and spiritual courage. His repose, on May 6th, is a day of special reverence for the faithful.
