Workers Authorize ETYK to Take Measures Regarding Housing Finance Organization Issues

Employees of the Housing Finance Organization (HFO) have authorized ETYK (the Cyprus Trade Union Confederation) to take all necessary measures to address their demands, including the possibility of a strike if progress is not made. The decision was made at a general meeting, as the employees' requests remain unanswered. The main demands concern the renewal of the Collective Labor Agreement, which expired in 2016, addressing the chronic understaffing of the Organization, fulfilling long-delayed promotions (with the last ones taking place in 2008), and reinstating higher-level positions that were unilaterally abolished. Employees believe that the approval of their requests is stalled within the Ministry of Finance, creating a deadlock. ETYK is expected to meet with the HFO Board of Directors next week to discuss the issues and seek solutions. This situation creates uncertainty for the operation of the HFO, as the unresolved issues threaten labor unrest that could affect the provision of housing loans and the completion of important projects.
