Missing Explosives: Disciplinary Investigation Report to be Delivered to Defense Minister on Friday – "Some Bear Responsibility"

The report of the internal disciplinary investigation regarding the disappearance of 13.6 kilograms of explosives from a firing range is expected to be delivered to Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas on Friday. The Minister reiterated that the disappearance of the explosives carries responsibility, while emphasizing that the report was delivered by the investigating officer to a senior officer due to the former's retirement. The Defense Minister stated that disciplinary penalties are the responsibility of the National Guard Chief, but that the report records the existence of responsibilities. He also clarified that the Police are investigating criminal liabilities, i.e. who stole or took the explosives. Mr. Palmas avoided commenting on possible cooperation of National Guard personnel with the perpetrators before studying the report. In addition, the report has not yet been given to the Police, as the Minister wishes to study it first in order to assist the work of the authorities. Regarding the selection of an officer who was about to retire to conduct the investigation, the Defense Minister assured that there is no gap, as the retirement was not certain until the completion of the National Guard assessments.
