European Report Calls for Integration of Wildfire Risk into All Policies

A European report, presented in Nicosia, proposes the integration of wildfire risk into all policies, including those related to climate change, spatial planning, agriculture, water management, and civil protection. The report by the European Council of Academies of Science (EASAC) highlights the need for a shift from simply suppressing wildfires to a comprehensive prevention and adaptation strategy. Cyprus, which is on the front line of the climate crisis, is called upon to adopt proactive land management, invest in reducing fuel load, and create resilient landscapes. The report points to the rapid increase in the frequency, intensity, and extent of wildfires in Europe, with the Mediterranean region being particularly vulnerable.
