Diko Leader Annoyed with President but Remains in Government

The President of Diko, Nikola Papadopoulos, expressed his annoyance with the statements of the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, regarding the video that raises suspicions of illegal funding. Despite his annoyance, Diko has not requested to withdraw from the government. Mr. Papadopoulos disagreed with the comparison of Diko's positions with the more intense reactions of the opposition. Diko had requested a meeting with President Christodoulides and had submitted its concerns, as well as proposals for sending a clear message of zero tolerance for such phenomena. He believes that the suspension of the Director-General of the President's Office is a step in the right direction. Also, the removal of the First Lady from the Fund of the Independent Body and the announcement of the abolition of the Body are considered positive steps. Mr. Papadopoulos described the video as “very strange” as it was made public by an unknown source and not by a recognized journalist. He stressed the need for caution, but added that if the allegations prove to be true, they should be investigated by the competent authorities. Diko proposed the appointment of special criminal investigators for the case. The President of Diko reiterated that the main goal is to protect the institution of the Presidency and restore transparency. He considered that, if the allegations are true, associates of the President have exposed him.
