Encouraging Bookings for the Clean Monday Long Weekend in Cyprus

Hotel bookings in Cyprus are showing encouraging signs for the upcoming Clean Monday long weekend, according to Christos Angelides, Director of PASYXE. The positive trend is attributed to good weather, carnival events, and the need to extend the tourist season. Occupancy rates are high in all cities, with many hotels offering special menus for Clean Monday. However, Mr. Angelides stressed that occupancy rates of 25%-30% do not allow for complacency, but the current period represents a phase of gradual development of winter tourism. Attracting conferences, events, and thematic tourism throughout the year is essential for the success of this effort. At the same time, there is an increase in air connections from various countries, including Armenia, Romania, Bulgaria, Latvia, Poland, and a timid recovery from Germany. This development contributes to strengthening tourism. Mr. Angelides emphasized that year-round tourism requires the cooperation of the entire tourism ecosystem, including catering, museums, and cultural events. Concentrating more activities during the winter period can make the season more attractive and take advantage of Cyprus's comparative advantages.
