Erasmus+ Project to Strengthen E-Learning in Conflict-Affected Regions of East Africa

The Erasmus EAGLE project, funded by the European Union, aims to strengthen the structures and units of e-learning in higher education institutions in conflict-affected regions of East Africa. The 36-month project, which began in January 2025, involves universities from Kenya and South Sudan, as well as the University of Nicosia and the Universitat Politècnica de Velència. The first meeting took place in Nairobi, followed by technical training in Valencia and Nicosia. The training focused on the creation and management of a Learning Management System (LMS) and providing tools to teachers to create and deliver courses in an e-learning environment. The project focuses on digital transformation and sustainable development, with an emphasis on access to quality higher education, the development of digital skills, and the promotion of employment. The project focuses on developing quality higher education without exclusion, introducing connectivity solutions for distance education, and developing skills for life and work. It also aims to address the structural causes of school dropout and promote gender equality. Following the training, the African partners will focus on upgrading their computing systems and installing Moodle platforms at their universities. The project recognizes the challenges faced by countries in the region, such as political instability and civil war, and seeks to contribute to development and prosperity through education.
