Lula and Macron call for strengthening the UN in response to Trump's Peace Council

The Presidents of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and France, Emmanuel Macron, agreed to promote the strengthening of the UN as a response to the “Peace Council” being promoted by US President Donald Trump. Both leaders stressed the need for peace initiatives to align with the mandates of the UN Security Council. France has already rejected Trump's proposal to join the council, while Lula expressed his desire for its work to be limited to the Gaza Strip. During a telephone conversation, the two presidents also discussed the situation in Venezuela following the arrest of Nicolás Maduro. Condemning violence and violations of international law, they emphasized the importance of safeguarding peace and stability in the region and worldwide. Trump's “Peace Council”, initially designed to end the war in Gaza, has now broadened its ambitions to resolving conflicts globally, making it competitive with the UN.
